Catherine Shaw

After graduating from Croydon college of Art with a BA in Theatre Design, Catherine Shaw, the creator and inspiration behind Allbone and Trimit, spent over 20 years making costumes in the world of theatre and opera, both in the UK and overseas.

Through working for the English National Opera, the Australian Opera, the New York Metropolitan and West End Theatre, Catherine brings to her designs a vast wealth of experience that makes having a dress made by Allbone and Trimit unique, be it a period cut design or a more innovative style.

Catherine's aim, by working with you, is to produce a very individual look, whether a frivolous cocktail frock or an alternative option in bespoke bridal wear, using colours other than white, cream or ivory.

At the initial consultation design and fabrics will be discussed. After which samples of fabric are sought and designs drawn up for your approval. A calico 'toile' will be made for your first fitting. At this stage adjustments are made to the fit of the garment, plus any minor design changes. From here the chosen fabric will be made up for the second fitting. It is usual for two or three further fittings to take place to ensure a perfect fit.
